THUNDER BAY — No injuries were reported after a home caught fire and burned down on Highway 102 on Saturday.

The fire broke out at the residence around 6 a.m., nearly halfway between Auto Road and Mud Lake Road.

Volunteer fire crews from Oliver-Paipoonge and Kaministiquia were called to attend to the blaze.

On arrival, Jack Drewes, the Kaministiquia fire chief, said the home was already fully engulfed in flames and could not be saved.

The homeowner escaped uninjured.

While fire crews mobilized around the fire scene, a section of Highway 102 was closed in both directions for more than an hour.

Drewes added because the home was destroyed, the cause of the fire will likely remain undetermined.
