British Columbia plans to direct all of its HST revenues to health, but Ontario’s premier said this province will not do the same.
Premier Dalton McGuinty told the Canadian Press Wednesday that Ontario will not put all of the revenues generated from the harmonized sales tax into health. A day earlier, B.C. officials said the unpopular tax would be used to help fund the rising health-care costs.
Both Ontario and B.C. plan to adopt HST, which combines the Provincial Sales Tax with the federal government’s Goods and Services Tax, in July.
McGuinty said he understands that health care is a big concern for people, but added that schools, the environment and the economy are too.
