Nearly 1,000 people came to a local gathering, put on a pair of solar glasses and witnessed a rare astronomical sighting.
Telescopes were set up on the on the grounds of James St Park to view the event.
Members of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada were on site to provide views of the sun using proper filters and special telescopes. People were able to witness Venus as it slowly passed in front of the sun.
The last time this occurred was in 2004.
The transit occurs in pairs separated by 8 years, but there is more than a century separating each cycle. That means the next Venus transit will take place in 2117.
Dave Gallant, organizer of the local viewing event, say's it's a great opportunity to be part of a historical moment and to view the transit firsthand.
The event began Tuesday at 6 p.m. and came to an end with that evening’s sunset.
