THUNDER BAY – Jeff Hunter is in the hunt for his second local major title of the season.

Hunter, who last month captured his first Strathcona Invitational championship, carries a commanding lead into Monday’s final round of the Teleco District Amateur.

The 33-year-old golfer carded back-to-back rounds of 70 at Chapples and Strathcona on Saturday and Sunday and will look to complete the career grand slam on Monday at Whitewater Golf Club.

Hunter leads Cody Burchkowski and Jeremy Kirk by four strokes, both players completing 36 holes of the 54-hole event with 144 totals, one over par.

Scott Wilke is one short further back, after shooting consecutive one-over par rounds of 73 and 72.

Kevin Jackson, Ed Atwill and Robert Atatise round out the top five, seven shots off Hunter’s pace.
