Bruce Hyer insists he's not joining the Green Party.
But the outspoken, independent MP for Thunder Bay-Superior North is heading to Alberta and British Columbia this coming weekend to campaign on behalf of Green Party candidates.
Federal by-elections are being held in B.C., Calgary, and Ontario on Nov. 26 and Hyer hopes to bring more independent-thinking candidates to Ottawa. Hyer has built up a good relationship with Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, who he shares a bench with in Parliament. He said traditional party candidates are just not as effective as independents.
Despite Hyer's support for Green Party candidates and their platform, he insists that he will remain an independent. Hyer quit the NDP in April, and in June pledged to remain an independent for at least one year before considering joining another party.
