THUNDER BAY – One of the area’s most popular Labour Day weekend traditions will be taking a pass in 2020.

Organizers of the Hymers Fall Fair on Wednesday confirmed the event has been cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s just the sixth time since 1912 that the event has been cancelled, the previous five during the Second World War from 1941 to 1945.

“In consideration of the global pandemic and its uncertainty, we wish to put the health and safety of our volunteers, exhibitors, sponsors, vendors and guests first. You are all so important to us and are the heart in which keeps our little Country Fair beating.” Randy Creighton, president, Hymers Agricultural Society said in a letter being sent to his membership.

The fair is expected to return in 2021.
