THUNDER BAY – The Bay and Algoma Buskers Festival is returning bigger and better than ever according to festival organizers.

The ninth annual Buskers Festival will see an expansion this year as well as an expanded focus in where the festival will source talent.

“We're trying to get some cross-border tourism and just really kind of create the festival as an economic driver,” said Uriel Lubuk, festival director.

“But we always go back to our mission statement of really just focusing on highlighting the Bay and Algoma neighborhood as a tourist destination - or even if you're not a tourist just to come down and see what's in your own backyard.”

For the second straight year, TD will be sponsoring the event. Michael Nitz, vice-president for TD for Northern Ontario and Manitoba, said that continuing the relationship between the company and the festival was an obvious choice.

“Why wouldn't we be involved? It’s one of the best events of the summer - that really brings out family connecting them with the arts. And what a great way to visit the Bay and Algoma Business District,” he said.

“We had no choice but to be a part of it. Anything where it brings family together and celebrates the arts, TD will be there.”

The festival will feature two world-renowned buskers including comedian and juggler Sam Malcolm, and firebreather Egemen Ustun.

This year's Busker's Festival will take place July 27 and 28, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
