Impaired motorist arrested driving unsafe pick-up truck

Police say the vehicle's truck bed was secured to the frame with ratchet straps, among other safety concerns.

THUNDER BAY – A 41-year-old man, already facing an impaired charge laid late last month, was arrested for a second time in just over three weeks and now faces a second impaired driving charge.

City police, in a release issued on Wednesday, said the Thunder Bay resident also faces a number of other citations, including a charge of operating an unsafe vehicle.

According to police, a traffic officer was on patrol on Tuesday, April 22 and observed a driver whose license was believed to be suspended.

Upon pulling over the motorist, and detecting multiple signs of impairment, the officer noticed a number of unsafe elements, including the box of the pick-up truck being secured to the frame with ratchet straps, an unsecured driver’s seat and a significantly damaged front windshield.

The accused was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, operating a vehicle without insurance, operating an unsafe vehicle and driving while under suspension.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and was released to face a future court date.
