THUNDER BAY — A contractor is starting work to rehabilitate a stretch of Dog Lake Road/Highway 589 between Thunder Bay and Surprise Lake.
According to a published notice, motorists can expect occasional delays through the summer while the work progresses.
The Ministry of Transportation website shows the project includes resurfacing the busy route, which carries considerable commuter traffic, gravel trucks from several area quarries, and cottagers travelling back and forth from the city.
The work will begin at the Thunder Bay city boundary near Gorevale Road and continue for 11 kilometres to Goodman Lake Road.
Pioneer Construction won the contract for the project, which will cost almost $6 million.
Besides repaving, it includes culvert replacements, ditch improvements and replacing roadside guard rails.
The work is expected to be completed by fall.
