THUNDER BAY – Two city police officers were assaulted in separate incidents over the weekend.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to a dispute at an address on Yonge Street at about 10:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30.
One person repeatedly kicked at an officer's legs as the officer was trying to apprehend them.
A 20-year-old Thunder Bay woman has been charged with Assault x3 and Assaulting a Peace Officer.
Just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, officers responded to reports of a disturbance and assault on Red River Road.
One officer was punched in the face while intervening after a group of people had been fighting. The identity of the assailant is unknown.
Neither officer required medical attention.
“Rates of assault against police are significantly higher in Thunder Bay than the provincial average,” a Thunder Bay Police news release said.
