THUNDER BAY — One week after a dog wounded a six-year-old child, an investigation into the incident continues, although it's unknown whether the dog's owner has been located and/or interviewed.
Dog bite investigations are conducted by the City of Thunder Bay's Municipal Enforcement Services.
The young girl sustained injuries to her head, face and foot after being bitten near her Wiley Street home the evening of Aug. 6.
According to the child's father, it happened when the girl approached the owner and asked if she could pat the dog.
Video from a nearby security camera showed a woman leaving the scene with a dog on a leash moments later.
TBnewswatch requested an update on the investigation Monday from Municipal Enforcement Services.
In a brief response, the city's manager of licensing and enforcement, Doug Vincent, said "there is an open bite investigation in the Simpson-Ogden neighbourhood. Our officers are working on confirming information in this particular case, and as it is under investigation, cannot provide any further information.”
A GoFundMe campaign started by the girl's mother has raised almost $2,000 toward medical and other expenses.
In an accompanying message, she writes that her daughter is complaining of eye issues, and is having nightmares about the incident.
