NAKINA, Ont. — The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has sent two investigators to Nakina where a local resident died in a house fire.

Ontario Provincial Police received a call about the fire at 1 a.m. on Monday.

They say the house was completely destroyed, and that a male was unaccounted for after the fire.

Family, friends and neighbours are mourning the loss of JP Mercier.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the victim's spouse.

Organizers say she not only lost her husband but her home and all of their belongings.

"Please find it in your heart. We live in a wonderful community where it is important to lift each other up," a posted message states.

There's also a local appeal for donations of clothing and other items.
