Two Transportation Safety Board investigators have arrived at the site of Friday's fatal Wasaya cargo plane cash near Pickle Lake.

TSB investigators are examining and documenting the wreckage as well as identifying pieces of the plane that may need further lab analysis. Weather conditions, aircraft maintenance records, pilot training and communications recorders are all being reviewed to determine the cause of the crash.

"Depending on what we find, that leads the investigation further," said TSB spokeswoman Roxanne Daoust.

"The first step is to collect all this information and see where it leads us."

Daoust added the TSB is not responsible for laying blame but investigations are aimed at ensuring systemic problems can be addressed to avoid future incidents.

Wasaya Flight 127 from Pickle Lake to Wapekeka First Nationwas deemed late at 9:21 a.m. on Friday and had fallen out of communication.

While search and rescue crews were able to spot the downed plane approximately 28 kilometres northeast of Pickle Lake in the early afternoon, a healicopter was unable to reach the site because of heavy icing in freezing rain. The Ontario Provincial Police launched a ground rescue effort at 4 p.m. and arrived at the site at 10:50 p.m.

The lone passenger of the Cessna 208 Caravan cargo aircraft, Capt. Nick Little was discovered unresponsive at the scene and could not be resuscitated.
