NOLALU — Nolalu's fledging live-music event at the village's community centre is turning out to be so popular organizers may consider upgrading the facility's sound system.

"It's something we may have to raise money for," event organizer Marisa Nascimben said on Tuesday. The event "has really taken off, more than I expected," she added.

Nascimben said the idea for Jam Nights showcasing local talent took hold last fall, when like-minded music lovers kicked around the idea of creating a venue closer to home.

"There's a lot of musicians who live out here, so it's nice to have somewhere to play without having to drive all the way (to Thunder Bay)," she said.

She added: "People like to play and perform for an audience. It creates a nice dynamic."

Admission is free. A concession stand is available at the community centre, which is located in the village on Highway 588.

Nascimben said her goal is to have four Jam Nights per year. For people coming from Thunder Bay, "it's a nice scenic drive," she said.

Friday's jam session is to feature a bluegrass and country theme. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, the jam is to switch to rock, pop and alternative-rock genres. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
