THUNDER BAY — A new exhibit at the Thunder Bay Museum is all about hope and the resilience of nature.
The Jane Goodall Reasons for Hope exhibit is being featured at the Thunder Bay Museum, in partnership with Science North, and was formally unveiled on Wednesday.
The museum is featuring the new 45 minute film about the well-known anthropologist and different good news stories from around the world, including the Canadian story out of Sudbury and the planting of millions of trees.
"These are really inspiring stories, but they also put it into context, some of the things that we are talking about in Northern Ontario," museum executive director Scott Bradley said.
"Those are good things for our visitors and students to understand. We live in this environment of resource extraction, and a lot of things like that have happened to our environment, but it's also good to look at the future and say there is a path forward, and we can look at that history and our present."
Science North is sharing an interactive exhibit at the museum to go along with the film, showcasing different parts of our environment and how it can all connect together.
One exhibit shows how when a beaver builds a dam, how many other species benefit from that --- but take that beaver away, and the other species also lose out.
Another interactive part of the exhibit is the turtle safety showcase. While not featuring real turtles, their 3D-printed likeness has a video to explain how to help various species of turtles cross the road safely.
Science North CEO Ashley Larose said the exhibit will benefit Thunder Bay's community.
"One of the really cool things about all the exhibits that we're producing is that they're all really relevant to the communities that they're in," she said. "People are going to come away from this exhibit with concrete ideas that they can implement into their everyday lives toward more environmental sustainability and more."
This is the first interactive exhibit to go along with the movie.
