Job fair introduces residents to Canadian Armed Forces

The fair is taking place at O’Kelly VC Armouries in Thunder Bay over six days

THUNDER BAY – Area residents are being invited to learn a little more about careers in the Canadian Armed Forces over a six-day job fair.

The local fair is part of a national job fair taking place throughout April as part of ongoing recruiting efforts.

“This is just a recruiting drive and we're showing off some of the capabilities, some of our equipment, and what we can do and what we do with it,” said Corporal David Borton.

The fair is taking place at O’Kelly VC Armouries in Thunder Bay from April 20 to 26, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays.

Attendees will have the chance to meet and talk to service members, learn about some of the equipment used by the forces, and even try a virtual-reality simulation of a situation a field medic may find themselves in.

“The Lake Superior Scottish Regiment has some of their weapon systems out. We have anti-tank weapons, grenades and machine guns and rifles out for people to check out and handle and then the signals regiment here has a simulated command post,” said Corporal Connor Cook.

For those unable to attend the job fair but still wish to find out more about career opportunities in the Canadian Armed Forces, visit the organization’s website
