KENORA, Ont. – Karen Kejick is hoping to carry the Liberal banner into the June 7 election in Kenora-Rainy River.

Kejick, born and raised in Shoal Lake 39 First Nation, announced on Tuesday she’ll seek the party’s nomination.

In a release, Kejick says she’s a champion for women’s rights and a strong advocate against violence against women.

A representative of families at both the first and second roundtables on murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls, she’s currently studying political science at the University of Manitoba.

The Progressive Conservatives have already nominated former federal cabinet minister Greg Rickford, while the NDP are seeking a candidate after denying Matt Soprovich the right to seek their nomination because of images and statements on his past social media feeds.
