KENORA, Ont. – The City of Kenora is the lone Northwestern Ontario community to receive one of 103 grants under a pair of new federal government funding programs.

The community will receive $42,335 for a mobile sensing roads assessment and GIS-based software analytics program through the Municipal Asset Management Program.

"These new programs will help municipalities to plan, build and maintain their infrastructure more strategically, and will enable them to invest in infrastructure projects reducing greenhouse gas emissions and better preparing for the impacts of climate change,” said Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi in a release.

“Innovative green infrastructure projects contribute to a clean growth economy and strengthen the middle class by ensuring communities are healthy and sustainable places to live."

The money, which will also be provided through the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program, are deliverd by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities through the federal government.

MCIP will provide $75 million over five years and is designed to help communities be better prepared to adapt to the realities of climate change. MMAP is a five-year, $50-million program designed to help Canadian municipalities strengthen infrastructure investment decisions based on sound asset management practices.
