Kiwanis opened its Christmas Tree lot for the 2024 season

The trees are for sale until there are none left, which could be only 10 days.

THUNDER BAY — Residents looking for a Christmas Tree this season can find the Kiwanis Club at the CLE grounds starting on Saturday.

The Kiwanis Club of Westfort is selling Christmas trees to fundraise, until they run out.

There were 30 volunteers at the CLE grounds on Saturday unloading the trees.

Terry Ferguson, chair of the Christmas tree committee for the Kiwanis Club of Westfort, said they had 706 trees up for grabs, and within just a few hours more than 100 were sold.

“The Kiwanis Club of Westfort has been selling Christmas Trees since 1954.”

Ferguson said anyone interested in a tree, head down to the CLE grounds and check them out.

“I'm here myself from noon until 5 p.m. every day. There's someone else on shift from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

“On weekends there are people here from 10 a.m. again until 8 p.m.”

When there are about 20 trees left, the remainder gets donated to Our Kids Count, Ferguson said.

“If this weather stays this cold, we might be here a long time,” he said, “But if we get some decent weather and get a good turnout, I don't expect to be here any more than 10 or 12 days.”

Trees start at $70 and can go up to a maximum of $240 depending on size, Ferguson said.

“We will earn a net profit of over $10,000 for the club and for the children of Thunder Bay. All of the money stays here in the city and helps underprivileged children.”

Ferguson said Kiwanis’ motto is ‘changing the world one child and one community at a time.’
