TORONTO – The Lakehead Thunderwolves withstood a fourth-quarter charge by the Toronto Metropolitan Bold and secured a weekend split on their opening road trip of the season.

Laoui Msambya paced the LU attack with 23 point, while Tyler Hagl chipped in 20, one of four Thunderwolves to hit double digits on the night in the 86-76 triumph.

Chris Sagl and Nthan Bilamu had 13 points apiece for Lakehead, who led 48-43 at the half and upped their lead to 14 with a 29-point third quarter. The Bold fought back with a 27-19 advantage in the fourth, cutting the gap to six in the final minute on a Simon Chamberlain three, but Bilamu hit one from distance to restore a nine-point edge and the T-Wolves evened their record at 1-1.

Chamberlain led TMU with 20 points, hitting four three-pointers on the night.

Lakehead will host York next weekend. Tip-off is 8 p.m. both nights for the men’s game. The women’s game goes at 6 p.m.
