WINDSOR, Ont. – The Lakehead Thunderwolves need all the points they can get.

In the tightly packed OUA West, they’re not alone.

After Friday night’s action, just three points separate top spot in the division from seventh. Only six team make the postseason.

LU claimed a share of first place on Friday night, with two games in hand on Toronto Metropolitan, rolling to a 5-1 road win over the Windsor Lancers.

Richard Whittaker had a goal and two helpers to lead the way for the Thunderwolves (8-4-1), who won a second straight outing.

Spencer Blackwell, Nicolas De Grazia and Olivier Pouliot, with his fourth and fifth of the season, scored Lakehead’s other goals.

Tye Toews scored at 9:57 of the third to spoil Carson Cherepak’s shutout bid. Cherepak stopped 23 of 24 Lancers shots.

Nathan Torchia took the loss, giving up four goals on 25 shots before giving way to Max Donoso to start the third. Donoso was good on seven of eight LU shots in the final frame.

Windsor slipped to 7-6-0 with the loss.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
