Lakehead wrestlers find podium at OUA championships

The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s wrestling team finished fourth, the women fifth, at the OUA wrestling championships in Hamilton.

HAMILTON, Ont.  – The Lakehead Thunderwolves men’s wrestling team just missed the podium on Saturday at the OUA wrestling championships in Hamilton.

The T-Wolves men captured five medals, but came up two points short of winning team bronze, their 46 points two back of Western. The Brock Badgers won gold in both the men’s and women’s divisions, with McMaster and Western finishing second and third, respectively.

Lakehead’s women finished fifth, with 18 points.

Erin Clayton was LU’s lone medallist on the women’s side, taking silver in the 63-kilogram division. Mike Zale (65-kilogram), Abraham Ntienjem (72-kilogram) and Mateo Anisi (76 kilogram) took silver on the men’s side, while Ryan Barney (90-kilogram) and John Campbell (100-kilogram) won bronze medals.

Nationals are slated for two weeks, in Edmonton.
