Lamoureux hat trick vaults Fighting Walleye past Lumberjacks

Dryden and Sioux Lookout also picked up SIJHL wins on Friday night.

IRONWOOD, Mich. – Jacob Lamoureux was just what the Kam River Fighting Walleye needed on Friday night.

Having spotted the home side a 2-0 lead in the first, Lamoureux, who had scored just once in five appearances since joining the Fighting Walleye, got down to business, scoring a natural hat trick to help lead his team to a come-from-behind 4-2 win over the Ironwood Lumberjacks.

The Sherwood Park, Alta. native got Kam River on the board at 18:41 of the first, then scored goals 10 minutes apart in the second to push the Fighting Walleye in front, leading 3-2 after 40 minutes.

Carter Poddubny added an insurance marker at 13:53 of the third.

Jack Hanna an Collin Baker had the Lumberjacks tallies.

Ashton Sadauskas made 21 saves to earn the win in nets. Trent Boryszczuk was a little busier at the other end of the rink, facing 52 Fighting Walleye shots.

Sioux Lookout 6, Fort Frances 3: Ty Kirk scored twice and Owen Riffel had a goal and two assists as the Bombers doubled up the Lakers. Evan Kabel had a goal and two helpers for the host Lakers.

Dryden 5, Red Lake 2: Payton Hu scored twice as the first-place Ice Dogs maintained their stranglehold on top spot in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings. Kellan Mooney made 51 saves between the pipes for Dryden.
