THUNDER BAY — Provincial police saw a drop in calls for service during last week's reporting period.

OPP at the Thunder Bay detachment received 382 calls during the week of April 21 to 27. That's a 59 per cent decrease compared to the week before.

Police responded mostly to eTicket incidents for a majority of the calls, as well as traffic complaints and conducting R.I.D.E programs.

During this time period, OPP laid a total of 228 charges, only 21 of which related to the criminal code. The remainder of the incidents were for Highway Traffic Act violations, with officers laying 207 traffic charges.

The OPP is reminding the public about its online reporting system, Citizen Self Reporting, which can be used as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for minor incidents.

These numbers are not representative of police activity in the city at large, as the Thunder Bay Police Service has jurisdiction over the municipality itself and tracks calls for service separately.
