WATERLOO, Ont. – Olivier Pouliot got the Lakehead Thunderwolves into overtime, but that’s a far as the visiting team’s luck lasted.

Tyler Hunt, with his first of the season, scored the winner 2:13 into the extra frame on Friday night and the always pesky Laurier Golden Hawks edged the Thunderwolves 4-3, dropping Lakehead (9-6-2) from a tie for second place in the OUA West to a tie for fourth.

It was the fourth lead change of the night.

Ben Badalamenti and Trent Crane scored their first goals of the season for Lakehead, the latter’s first OUA goal giving the T-Wolves a 2-1 lead less than two minutes into the second.

But Laurier’s Evan Benwell knotted the game with his third of 2024-25 just pass the halfway point of the middle stanza.

Brendan Anderson put Laurier up 3-2 at 2:01 of the third, a lead that held for just over 10 minutes before Pouliot put one past Golden Hawks goaltender Paris O’Brien.

Christian Cicigoi took the loss for Lakehead, stopping 30 of 34 shots.

The Wolves went 0-for-5 on the power play.

Lakehead and Laurier tangle again on Saturday night.
