THUNDER BAY – A local school board trustee has thrown his name into the NDP nomination ring in Thunder Bay-Superior North.

Alain Lauzon, originally from Kapuskasing, Ont., has served on the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales since 2014.

The father of two, in a release issued on Monday night, said he’s ready for the pressure of politics at Queen’s Park.

“I see a natural fit for me within the NDP. The party’s policies are clearly aimed to better the lives of everyday, hard-working Ontarians. This party commits itself to do right by Ontario families on a full-time basis, not just in the run-up to an election.”

Lauzon called the riding a portrait of his family.

“I want to advocate for all who seek fairness and accountability from their government. I want to advocate for Thunder Bay in a caucus that has a very strong base of support in Northern Ontario. The NDP is very much in tune with the issues that matter most to Northerners.”

Current River Coun. Andrew Foulds sought the seat for the NDP in 2014, losing to long-time incumbent Liberal Michael Gravelle.
