Lee resigns as Fighting Walleye coach

First-year bench boss guided the team to a 5-5-0 record to start the 2024-25 SIJHL season.

Dwight Lee has resigned as coach of the Kam River Fighting Walleye after just 10 games.

OLIVER PAIPOONGE -- Once again, the Kam River Fighting Walleye are on the hunt for a new coach.

The Superior International Junior Hockey League team on Wednesday announced the resignation of first-year coach Dwight Lee. No reason for the departure was give in a brief news release. 

Lee had guided the defending regular-season champions to a 5-5-0 record, most recently dropping two in a row to the Thunder Bay North Stars this past weekend.

Lee took over the coaching reins from Jesse Messier, who spent one season behind the bench.

The team will be seeking its fifth coach in five seasons.

Team officials said the search for their new bench boss will begin immediately.
