LETTER: City should declare an emergency due to the homeless situation

This would pressure or perhaps even shame the province and possibly the federal government into providing proper support.

To the editor,

I would like to respond to the following letter submitted by Aldo Ruberto, "Tent city is a disaster in the making," dated April 30, 2024.

Isn't it funny how people who once served on city council now become critical of city administration not properly handling our homeless issue?

The reason why I refer to city administration as running our city, is because this city council was supposedly elected to serve the best interests of Thunder Bay residents, not city administration.

When I ran as a candidate for Current River Ward and now still I advocate that we as a city should declare an emergency on our homeless situation.

By doing so, this would pressure or perhaps even shame the province and possibly the federal government into providing proper support which will have immediate results.

I suggested we utilize the LPH building to house the majority of the homeless or provide or renovate empty buildings that the city currently owns.

The only thing worse than a person that doesn't give a damn about the homeless, is one who says they care but offers no solution. Isn’t it funny he made no effort towards a proper solution, but rather only excused administration while he was on city council?
