THUNDER BAY -- The Canadian spirit of generosity is known worldwide, and here in Thunder Bay one local charity is asking residents to dig deep to help bring clean drinking water to West Africa.

Since 1995, Lifewater workers have drilled clean drinking water wells in Liberia, and other countries in West Africa.

This week the organization will be hosting a 20th anniversary charity dinner at the Valhalla Inn.

The goal is to raise funds for its projects worldwide, while showcasing the work done by its people on the ground.

Jim Gehrels is Lifewater's president. He says the organization's efforts in West Africa are now more important than ever.

Lifewater is currently active in Liberia, Kenya, Nigeria, and Haiti.

Tickets for this Friday's Lifewater dinner are available through lifewater.ca.
