According to a CTV News report, Thunder Bay's Jeff Murray was initially told the Collect to Win prize could not be fulfilled because of COVID-19 restrictions and capacity limits.

THUNDER BAY -- A Thunder Bay man will get to go to the Stanley Cup final after all.

According to a CTV News report, Jeff Murray won tickets to a championship round game through a Tim Hortons' contest, but had to pressure the coffee giant to make good on the prize.

Murray, a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan, contacted CTV Toronto earlier this week seeking help to collect on his Collect to Win contest prize. He said he was first told the pandemic meant the prize would be cancelled.

According to the CTV report, the company offered the other four grand-prize winners the opportunity to attend a 2022 contest, either the NHL all-star game or a Stanley Cup final contest.

After being contacted by the network, the company later said they managed to get a pair of tickets from the league.

Murray and his wife left Sunday for Montreal.

"Thank you Tim Hortons for coming through. You've made two people's lives much better today," Murray told the network.

Murray's Habs currently trail Tampa Bay 3-0 in the best-of-seven series. Montreal, whose roster includes Thunder Bay's Eric Staal, has not won the Cup since 1993, the last Canadian team to win an NHL championship. Tampa Bay is seeking its second straight Stanley Cup win.
