THUNDER BAY – An investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service’s economic crime unit has led to 16 counts being laid against a local lawyer.

Daniel James William Matson, 31, was charged with nine counts of obstructing justice, four counts of forgery, two counts of personation and one count of making a false statement.

Police on Friday said the investigation began in June 2017 after they were provided information from the Law Society of Upper Canada.

The alleged crimes involved multiple victims while he was a practicing lawyer between 2013 and 2017. He was first charged on Jan. 22 and has been released on a promise to appear in court on March 29.
