Local man arrested for second-degree murder

THUNDER BAY — Police have charged a man with murder following a jail assault that occurred last month.

31-year-old Travis Jacob Loon of Thunder Bay is charged with second-degree murder in connection with an assault that occurred at the Thunder Bay District Jail on Oct. 25.

According to police, the victim, a 39-year-old man, was transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries that were considered life threatening.

The victim succumbed to those injuries on Wednesday.

The Thunder Bay Police Service major crimes unit became involved in the investigation and Loon was arrested on Thursday.

Loon was already facing a murder charge in connection with the 2022 death of 37-year-old Rusty James Russow .
