THUNDER BAY - The Thunder Bay Police Service officer facing theft and breach of trust charges has been identified as Const. Peter Ritchie.

Court documents obtained by Newswatch show Ritchie was charged on Oct. 10, 2024 with theft of property not exceeding $5,000 and breach of trust in connection with the duties of his office by theft of property. His identity was first reported by CBC Thunder Bay.

The charges relate to a single complainant and the incident occurred on July 18, 2024.

The Thunder Bay Police Service issued a media release earlier this month advising that charges had been laid but the officer was not identified.

In the release, the Thunder Bay Police Service said Ritchie has been suspended with pay in accordance with legislation.

Ritchie’s next court date is scheduled for November 27. None of the charges have been proven in court.
