THUNDER BAY — City police have laid child pornography charges after an investigation.

Officers in the Cyber Crime unit started their investigation in July after receiving information that a local internet user was suspected of accessing material consistent with child pornography.

Thunder Bay Police secured and executed a search warrant at a home in the city where multiple electronic devices were seized.

As a result of the continued investigation, the suspect turned himself into the police on Nov 6.

Manuel Joaquim, 55, of Thunder Bay, is charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

It is Newswatch policy not to name people facing criminal accusations when the case is unlikely to be followed to its conclusion through the courts.
