Local ski racer excels at Whistler Cup

She earned a spot with Team Ontario at the recent OCup Championships in Collingwood, Ont., and competed in the team relay, slalom, and giant slalom events at Whistler mountain, B.C.

THUNDER BAY — Local alpine ski racer Ella Nichols (Thunder Bay Franco Alpine Ski Team) recently competed at the 2024 Whistler Cup along with other Lake Superior Division racers, where she won the Nancy Green Raine award for fastest overall Canadian Girl in the U14 category.

She earned a spot with Team Ontario at the recent OCup Championships in Collingwood, Ont., and competed in the team relay, slalom, and giant slalom events at Whistler mountain, B.C.

Now in its 25th year, the Whistler Cup is one of the largest and most important ski races in the world for athletes aged 11-15 years.

Athletes from Japan, Europe, South America, New Zealand, Australia, USA and Canada competed over the three-day event.
