THUNDER BAY – A 62-year-old Thunder Bay woman faces multiple charges after allegedly becoming involved in a collision while impaired and failing to remain at the scene.

Officers with the Ontario Provincial Police’s Thunder Bay detachment responded to a collision involving two passenger vehicles on Highway 11/17 in the city of Thunder Bay just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

No injuries were reported in the collision.

The driver of one of the vehicles had fled the scene of the accident before the OPP arrived, but was located shortly after by the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Police determined that driver, identified as Janine Lafontaine, was impaired by alcohol, placing her under arrest and transporting her to the Thunder Bay OPP detachment for testing.

Lafontaine faces charges of operation while impaired, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of 80-plus, and failure to stop after an accident.

She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in January.
