LACROSSE, Wisc. – The LaCrosse Loggers made the most of limited opportunities.

Limited to just two hits by a quartet of Border Cats pitchers, the Loggers nevertheless did just enough offensively to pull out a 2-1 triumph on Sunday night.

Eli Small blasted a two-run home run to centre, flowing a one-out, Mateo Gray single, all the offense they’d need, erasing an early 1-0 Thunder Bay lead.

Ashton Michek was brilliant on the mound for LaCrosse, allowing a single run on three hits, striking out 10 and walking just three in six-and-a-third innings.

Thunder Bay’s lone run of the game came with one-out in the first, Kael Babin crossing the plate on a Jeremy Sheffield ground out.

John McDonald got the start for Thunder Bay and allowed just two walks over three innings, before giving way to Tyler Talbert to start the fourth.

It was Talbert who was on the mound when Small went deep.

He took the loss, evening his record at 1-1. Michek earned the win and improved to 2-1, with Jack Mount earning the save, despite allowing the tying run to get into scoring position on a Camden Tanner single and a Corey Morro walk.

The Cats return home on Monday to host the Eau Claire Express. Game time is 6:35 p.m.
