LONGLAC - A Longlac woman who was arrested after police executed a search warrant at a residence which resulted in the seizure of illegal drugs and a significant amount of Canadian currency was granted bail by a Justice of the Peace on Friday.

Jocelyne Shea, 27, is charged with several drug trafficking offences after police were initially called to a Longlac residence on April 26, according to a previous media release distributed by Ontario Provincial Police.

On Friday, May 8, Shea appeared by video from the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre for a bail hearing.

Defence counsel Kevin Matthews requested a temporary publication ban which prohibits the publication of evidence presented at Shea’s bail hearing on Friday.

Justice of the Peace Denette Ellard consented to Shea’s release to her father acting as a surety on a $2,500 bail plan with no deposit.

Her bail conditions include residing with her surety and being under house arrest. She will only be allowed out of her house with a surety, Ellard said.

She must also refrain from using drugs or alcohol, possessing any weapons or drug trafficking paraphernalia. Shea will also be subject to curfew compliance checks.

Shea was arrested in late April after police were initially dispatched to a residence in Longlac to investigate the sudden death of Ian Shaganash, 29, police said at the time.

Three days later, police officers with the OPP’s Community Street Crime Unit returned and executed a search warrant at the same residence and seized four ounces of suspected methamphetamine and approximately $7,600 in cash.

Shea was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine,  two counts of possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000 and failing to comply with a release order.

Shea is scheduled to return back to court in July.
