'Loss of supply' behind Thunder Bay power outage

The almost city-wide power outage lasted less than an hour on Thursday evening.

THUNDER BAY — A massive power outage that knocked out electricity for most of the city on Thursday was because of a "loss of supply," according to Synergy North.

Over 34,000 customers were affected by the 40-minute outage.

Synergy North spokesperson Lesley Racco said the power went out for thousands of residents "due to an interruption in supply at the transmission level. Racco added that the loss affected transmission stations on Walsh Street and Birch Street.

TBnewswatch contacted Hydro One, which supplies power to Synergy North, for more information.

"We experienced a power outage on our transmission system due to damaged equipment that affected Synergy North. Our crews made repairs to the equipment, and power was restored," Hydro One said in an email response.

Synergy North noted they were very pleased the unplanned outage lasted only 40 minutes and appreciated customers' support.
