THUNDER BAY — A slew of drinking and driving incidents have been reported by city police over the weekend.
The first was a single-vehicle collision early Saturday morning on Highway 11/17 at Copenhagen Road North, where the car was located by emergency services in the ditch.
The driver declined medical attention but failed a field sobriety test performed by an officer at the scene, and was brought to the police station for further testing.
The 19-year-old driver was subsequently charged with driving under the influence and other related charges.
On Sunday morning around 7 a.m., police were called to a vehicle after getting reports of a driver asleep behind the wheel on Cumberland Street North.
When EMS located the running vehicle, a paramedic attempted to turn it off, but instead, the driver took off.
Found in a parking lot on Clarke Street shortly after, police again located the driver sleeping behind the wheel.
A 38-year-old male has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired, along with other charges.
Police say in total, five people were arrested and charged with impaired driving offences on Saturday and Sunday.
