Low-cost public spay and neuter program on pause

The Thunder Bay Humane Society ensures the public that it will provide updates regarding the opening of the low-cost public spay and neuter program.

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Humane Society has announced the temporary closure of its low-cost public spay and neuter program.

The announcement comes after Dr. Randi Roberts, shelter veterinarian, announced her resignation after six years of service.

The Humane society said in its announcement that the team is incredibly grateful to Roberts for her hard work and dedication over the years.

“The impact Dr. Roberts has had on our community, is exemplary,” the announcement read.

“Over the past six years our shelter has adopted out 5,000 animals and provided spay/neuter services to over 14,000 animals. We thank Dr. Roberts for her vital role in achieving these accomplishments – amongst many others.”

The humane society ensures the public that it will provide updates regarding the opening of the low-cost public spay and neuter program.

“Currently, our leadership team is actively trying to recruit a new veterinarian to come on full time,” said Shawna Beaulieu, executive director, Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.

“We're also in the process of putting some supports in place in order to assist us until we find a full-time replacement.”
