THUNDER BAY – The Ironwood Lumberjacks aren’t having the greatest season in team history, but they showed plenty of tenacity on Friday night.
Down three goals on two separate occasions, the Lumberjacks battled back and earned a home-ice point against the Tyler Jordan and the Thunder Bay North Stars.
Matteo Salvatore scored the equalizer with 4:51 to play in regulation, salvaging a 5-5 tie.
Jordan was the star of the night for Thunder Bay, scoring four times, including a natural hat trick in the first 5:26 of the second period.
Matthew Lysak had the other North Stars goal.
Chase Krtanjek, who scored the lone goal of the opening period, scoring twice for the Lumberjacks. James Jahnke and Collin Baker had the other Ironwood tallies.
Keenan Marks made 41 stops for Thunder Bay, while Kole Kronstedt was good on 52 of 57 North Stars shots between the pipes for the Lumberjacks.
Kam River 1, Kenora 0: The Fighting Walleye earned a forfeit win over the Islanders, who earlier this week suspended operations while seeking out a new owner to take over the team.
Dryden 1, Sioux Lookout 1: Michael Casey gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead in the second and the Ice Dogs Eli Antoine evened things up midway through the third. Overtime solved nothing and the two teams settled for a single point each.
Red Lake 5, Fort Frances 0: Koen Webber made 19 saves to record the shutout, his first of the season. Nathan Dann scored twice and added a helper for the Miners.
