THUNDER BAY — Spencer Blackwell is turning professional.
The former Lakehead Thunderwolves forward signed a contract with the ECHL's Wichita Thunder.
He'll join former Thunderwolves captain Tyler Jette with the Thunder. Jette is in his second season in Wichita, putting up two goals and five assists in 47 games this season.
Former Lakehead captain Noah Massie and his twin brother, Dylan, have also turnedprofessional, with the Quad City Storm of the Southern Professional Hockey League.
Noah Massie spent four seasons patrolling the Thunderwolves blueline, scoring one goal and 15 assists in 76 career games. He has one assist in two games with the Storm.
Brother Dylan, a forward, played 71 games for Lakehead, putting up 13 goals and 20 assists in 71 games over four sesons. He's scoreless in two games with Quad City.
Blackwell, 25, finished his OUA hockey career with 82 points in 93 regular season games, scoring 10 goals and adding 14 assists in 2024-25.
Other former Thunderwolves in the pro ranks include Griffen Fox, who is playing with Peoria of the SPHL, and defenceman Colin Van Den Hurk, who is a point-a-game player with Peiting EC in Germany. Forward Greg Smith has 13 points in 39 games with the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder.
