THUNDER BAY – He didn’t get the playoff result he was looking for, but Ryan Thomson has been named the OUA men’s basketball coach of the year.

Thomson led the Lakehead Thunderwolves to a 18-4 record in 2024-25, the second-best record in the school’s history.

He’s the second LU coach to take home coach of the year honours, following Scott Morrison, who won OUA West coach of the year in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The 10th-ranked Thunderwolves lost in the second round of the playoffs to Ontario Tech.

Thomson wasn’t the only member of the Thunderwolves to take home some hardware.

Nathan Bilamu, the second-leading scorer in the OUA, was named a first-team all-star, while Harold Santacruz was named to the second team.

Toronto Metropolitan's Aaron Bold was named the player of the year, with rookie of the year honours going to Ollie Engen of Queen’s.
