THUNDER BAY – The head of Synergy North is retiring.

Rob Mace will step down as of May 21, according to a release issued by the publicly owned utility, after 30 years with the company.

Mace has served as president and CEO of the company since 1993, when it was then known as Thunder Bay Hydro. Toward the end of his term, he helped oversee the merger with Kenora Hydro, forming the newly named company.

“Robert’s contributions to our industry and company have been significant and meaningful. His extensive knowledge and experience have helped guide our company to grow and succeed in a challenging environment. Robert’s strategic leadership was vital during the preparation and early days of our recent merger and continued to provide ongoing valuable counsel to the board and employees,” said Gary Armstrong, chair of Synergy North’s board of directors.

“As a company and community, we have all benefited from Robert’s passion and strategic thinking. I want to thank Robert for his service and dedication to serving customers in our communities and wish him all the best in his retirement.”
