THUNDER BAY – Magnus Theatre is ready to celebrate its return to the main stage with a shortlisted finalist for the 2021 Governor General Award for English Drama.
Magnus Theatre is back in the new year with “Two Indians” by Falen Johnson, a story that follows two cousins, Win and Roe, who reunite in the city following a family tragedy.
“It’s all about the dynamic of finding that cousin who you spent your whole life with, and that you were best friends with, but then something happened within the family and you don’t speak for three years,” said director Natalie Robitaille.
“It’s all about these two Indigenous women, one stayed on the reservation and the other one kind of fled to the city, and if they can find each other again."
The "Two Indians" cast consists entirely of Danelle Charette and Cheyenne Scott. Charette has some experience on the Magnus Stage, having starred in Salt Baby, another Falen Johnson play.
This performance will be Scott’s first time appearing on the Magnus stage. She was excited to make her debut with such a relatable family-driven story.
"I'm playing Roe and she is such an interesting, dynamic character because she's carrying a lot of past trauma and survivor's guilt,” Scott said.
“I feel really honoured to carry that responsibility of storytelling and I hope it brings healing for people who are also watching this."
"Two Indians" will run on the main stage from Jan. 26 to Feb. 10 with a pay-what-you-can performance on Jan. 28.
