Makeer leads Canada to World U17 silver medal

LEON, Mexico -- Thunder Bay’s Agot Makeer, who played for St. Ignatius High School, was named an all-star at the FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup. 

The guard put up 17.7 points per game, to go along with seven rebounds, four steals and 2.3 assists per game. 

Makeer led Canada to its best ever finish, a silver medal. Canada led the United States 17-16 after one quarter in the championship game, but were outscored 25-13 in the second quarter and went on to lose the gold-medal contest 84-64. 

Makeer had 10 points and 10 boards in the finale. 

Savannah Swords led Canada with 15 points.
