Man arrested after collision with police vehicle

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court appearance date.

THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay man has been charged with impaired driving after colliding with a marked police vehicle.

The collision occurred while city police officers were on patrol at the Balmoral Street and Oliver Road intersection shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The police vehicle was travelling south on Balmoral Street with a green light when the vehicle turned in front of it from Oliver Road and collided.

After speaking with the vehicle’s driver, responding officers said they allegedly observed signs of impairment.

While both vehicles sustained damage, no injuries were reported.

The 20-year-old driver has since been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration of more than 80 milligrams.

He was released on an undertaking with a future court appearance date.
