A 38-year-old man is in custody after a bizarre alleged demolition-derby style drive through the city over the weekend.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to a hit-and-run call around 9 p.m. Sunday. A witness said the driver had driven through yards and almost hit pedestrians in the Dawson street and Algoma area.

The same jeep was spotted a few minutes later hitting vehicles, fences and property in the Stephen Street area.

The driver then crashed into a building on Cumberland Street before being taken into custody.

The man appeared in court Monday morning.

He is charged with impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
