THUNDER BAY — A Toronto man faces charges after alleged aggressive behaviour that forced an aircraft to divert to Thunder Bay on Tuesday.

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service met the Toronto-to-Calgary flight just before 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, arresting the passenger and transporting him to police headquarters.

Jed Tannous, 31, of Toronto is accused of becoming aggressive with flight staff and at one point attempting to enter the cockpit of the plane, allegedly opening the cabin door.

That prompted the decision by pilots to divert the aircraft to Thunder Bay over safety concerns.

The behaviour came after a request to move seats was denied, according to a release from Thunder Bay police.

Tannous is charged with causing a disturbance and mischief over $5,000.

He appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.

The charges have yet to be tested in court.
